It focuses on important events in Russia’s recent past, explains the country’s failed attempt to accomplish liberal democratic reforms and discusses Putin’s ‘managed democracy’ project. Special attention is given to the Russia as a player in the international arena, as the course delves into the causes of Russo-Georgian war and the annexation of Crimea, as well as Russia’s confrontation with the Western world over the last few years.
