Rules for Entering

  • Entries are accepted in any of the following categories: Short Story; Poetry; Play or T.V. Script; Essay on a literary topic.
  • Competition is open to students registered in high schools in the National Capital Region.

Guidelines

All entries should be typed. Students may submit no more than one entry in any category. In the writing categories, students should keep entries to:

  • short story: maximum 3,000 words;
  • long poem or collection of poems: max. 125 lines;
  • play or TV script: max. 20 pages;
  • essay on literary topic: min.1,500 words; max. 2,000 words.

Prizes

Prizes include cash prizes, Ottawa Writers Festival tickets, book prizes, and award certificates.

Awards Reception

All students who place in the competition will be invited, along with their family, friends and teachers, to attend an awards reception on Friday, April 4, 2014.
