BEng with English as a Second Language requirement (ESL)
Students who have been admitted with a requirement to complete English as a Second Language (ESL) courses MUST register in the appropriate ESLA course each term. Please follow the steps below for registration:
- Login to your account on Carleton Central.
- Look under “Display Holds” to see what ESLA course you must take (for example: ESLA 1500, ESLA 1900). (See Example Below)
- Register in the required ESLA course using the “Class Search” function in Carleton Central.
- Your ESL hold will limit you to the number of ‘other’ credits/courses you can take; review your prerequisite tree to determine which 1st year courses you should take.
NOTE: Courses including ECOR 1010, ECOR 1101, PHYS 1004 and CHEM 1101 are English intensive. Avoid taking these courses until your ESL requirements are complete. Math and Science courses are the best option while you are completing your ESL requirements. - Find courses/sections which will fit your schedule through the “Build Your Time/Registration” section on Carleton Central. (See Example Below)
