Dr. Richard A. Hook, Vice President, Academic
Humber College of Applied Arts and Technology

 

Dr. Hook is the Vice President, Academic, of Humber College of Applied Arts and Technology, a position which he has held since 1986. Prior to that he held positions including Principal of the Lakeshore Campus, Dean of Planning and led both the School of Business and the Applied Arts Division. In these roles he established the Humber Arboretum, introduced a broad range of increasingly sophisticated and demanding programs and actively participated in the development and expansion of the College.

His academic background includes a Baccalaureate from York University, a Master's Degree specializing in Administration, Planning and Social Policy from Harvard, the invitational Leadership Program offered under the auspices of the League for Innovation for the Community College and a Doctorate in Higher Educational from OISE / University of Toronto.

He has been active in international consulting in Singapore and Hong Kong and led higher education administration and development education projects in Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and the Caribbean Leeward Islands. He has participated in or led studies of education in Britain, China, the North West Territories, the Middle East and Hong Kong and given numerous presentations on college administration in the Caribbean, Kuwait, the United States and Canada.

Dr. Hook sat on the Board of the Institute of Canadian Banking and Skills Canada (Ontario) and chaired the Provincial Senior Academic Officers. He actively participates in the Association of Colleges of Applied Arts and Technology and currently sits on the Steering Committee for the Ontario Colleges' Learning College initiative.
