The following schedule contains the dates prescribed by the University Senate for academic activities. Dates relating to fee payment, cancellation of course selections, late charges, and other fees or charges will be published in the Important Dates and Deadlines section of the 1999-2000 Registration Instructions and Class Schedule booklet.
The academic year is divided into two sessions.
The Fall/Winter session commences in September and continues until the end of the examination period in April. The Fall term of the Fall/Winter session consists of the months September to December. The Winter term consists of the months January to April. Courses are offered during the Day and the Evening.
The Summer session commences in May and continues until the end of the examination period in August. The First term of the Summer session commences in midMay and continues until the end of June. The Second term commences in July and continues until midAugust. Courses are offered during the Day and the Evening.
Last day for receipt of applications from potential Fall graduates.
Fall term begins.
PrepWeek. Academic and social orientation to the campus.
Statutory holiday, University closed.
PrepWeek activities continue.
Academic Orientation. All students are expected to be on campus. Class and laboratory preparations, departmental introductions for students, and other academic preparation activities will be held.

Fall and Fall/Winter classes begin.
Last day for registration.
Last day to change courses or sections for Fall/Winter and Fallterm courses.
Last day for receipt of applications for review of final grades in Summer Session courses.
University Day at Carleton. Undergraduate classes suspended.
Statutory holiday, University closed.
Summersession deferred final examinations will be held.
Last day to withdraw from Fallterm courses.
Last day to submit, to the Paul Menton Centre for Students with Disabilities, Formal Examination Accommodation Forms for December examinations.
Last day for receipt of applications for admission to a degree program for the winter-term of the 1999/2000 Fall/Winter session ("January Admissions" ).
Fall convocation for the conferring of degrees.
Last day for receipt of applications from potential Winter (February) graduates
Last day of Fall-term classes.
Fall Term ends.
Last day for receipt of applications for degree program transfers for Winter term of Fall/Winter session.
Last day for handing in term assignments for Fallterm courses, subject to any earlier course deadline.
Final examinations in Fall term courses and midterm examinations in Fall/Winter courses will be held. It may be necessary to schedule examinations during the day for classes held in the evening and vice versa.
Winter term and Winterterm classes begin.
Last day for registration for Winterterm courses.
Last day to change courses or sections for Winterterm courses.
Last day for receipt of applications for review of final grades in Fallterm courses.
Last day for receipt of applications from potential Spring graduates.
Last day for receipt of applications for admission to the Bachelor of Architectural Studies and the Bachelor of Social Work degree programs for the 2000/2001 Fall/Winter session.
Winter Break, classes suspended.
Fallterm deferred final examinations will be held.
Last day for receipt of applications to the Bachelor of Music degree program for the 2000/2001 Fall/Winter session.
Last day to withdraw from Fall/Winter and Winterterm courses.
Last day to submit, to the Paul Menton Centre for Students with Disabilities, Formal Examination Accommodation Forms for April examinations.
Last day for receipt of applications for admission to a program (except Bachelor of Architectural Studies, Bachelor of Music, and Bachelor of Social Work), for the 2000/2001 Fall/Winter session, from candidates whose documents originate outside Canada or the United States.
Last day for receipt of applications for admission to the Bachelor of Humanities program for the 2000/2001 Fall/Winter session.
Last day of Fall/Winter and Winterterm classes.

Last day for receipt of applications for admission to a program (except Bachelor of Architectural Studies, Bachelor of Journalism, Bachelor of Music and Bachelor of Social Work) for the 2000/2001 Fall/Winter session from mature applicants, from those presenting postsecondary education qualifications and from those transferring from other universities in Canada or the United States.
Last day for receipt of applications for admission to a program (except Bachelor of Architectural Studies, Bachelor of Journalism, Bachelor of Music and Bachelor of Social Work) from applicants with high school qualifications from Canada or the United States.
