Please join us March 19th, 2015 for the first keynote speaker in our lecture series: Mobility & Politics: Emerging Trends and Common Challenges in Europe and Canada. Professor Dr. Hans Dieter Laux will present on “Population Change, Migration and the Demographic Future of Germany within the European Union”.
The public lecture will be held from 2:30-4:30pm in the Senate Room(Robertson Hall Room 608), at Carleton University. No registration is required.
Lecture abstract: Demographic change and migration are arguably among the main challenges confronting European societies. This lecture will explore the consequences of population change and migration for regional development, and the labour and housing markets in Germany. Implications for Germany’s welfare system and the social cohesion between generations will also be discussed.
Guest lecturer biography: Dr. Hans Dieter Laux is Professor Emeritus of Geography at the University of Bonn, Germany where he teaches urban, social, and population geography. Dr. Laux’s research focuses on demographic change in Germany and Europe, international migration, and ethnic minorities in Germany and the United States.
