GRANTS FOR CURRICULAR DEVELOPMENT (adding EU material to new and existing courses)

The Centre for European Studies invites proposals for the addition of an element relating to the European Union into an existing or a new undergraduate or graduate course at Carleton. This could, for example, involve the addition of case studies from the EU, comparative material, or examination of specific EU policies or practices.

The maximum grant is $1750 CAD. Grants are for the purpose of curricular development and may be used for activities such as travel to Europe to consult with colleagues; research assistants; or acquisition of course materials. Preference will be given to courses in programs that do not currently offer courses on the EU.

Eligibility: Applicants should be regular Carleton faculty members.

Applications should include the following:

  • A description of the project (one page indicating what course is to be developed and how EU material will be added/included)
  • A proposed budget
  • A timeline for completion of the project and for offering of the course with the new content
  • A brief (5 page) resumé of the applicant, including information about past teaching experience
  • A letter of support from the unit chair indicating that (and when) the course with the new content will be offered.

Consideration of applications will commence on December 4, 2014 and will continue until all grants are awarded. Preparation of course material should be completed no later than August 1, 2015 and the course with the new content must be offered no later than winter term 2016.

Applications should be sent to:  Cathleen Schmidt, EU Program Coordinator, CES, cathleen.schmidt@carleton.ca

All materials should be included in one email (as attachments) with the subject title line ‘Curricular Grant Application for [applicant name]’.
