Carleton Email Privacy

To secure your email, Carleton has:

• Negotiated a contract with Microsoft ensuring it complies with Canadian privacy legislation.
• Secured your account by providing you a MyCarletonOne user id and password.
• Ensured the Carleton email system supports encryption.
• Conducted an audit of our email system to ensure accordance to industry standards.
• Followed best practices by engaging a third party to perform a Privacy Impact Assessment.

To secure your email, you should:

• Keep your password private.
• Sign out of your webmail when done.
• Use email appropriately – never share your Social Insurance Number, driver’s license, credit card number or passwords.

Unless required to do so by law, the content of your Carleton provided email account is not shared.

The content of any email system, regardless of where it is stored, is subject to legislation such as the Anti-Terrorism Act in Canada and the Patriot Act in the U.S.  The Canadian and U.S. governments share information they obtain via this legislation with each other, with regard to criminal investigations.
