Career Education in Your Classroom
Faculty and staff, help students see the connection between their degree and career opportunities. Book a Career in the Classroom workshop for the next academic year. The following workshops are available as requested. A link to the request form is here and below.
- Career Orientation for First Year Students (Approx. 60 minutes)
After this workshop students will:
- Identify available services and resources at Co-op and Career Services
- Dispel some common myths about career planning
- Understand the stages of the career planning cycle
- Discover different ways to gain knowledge about interests, values and skills to help with career planning
- Identify occupational interests with the help of a Holland-based interest inventory
- Targeted Job Searching (Approx. 60 minutes)
After this workshop students will:
- Identify available services and resources at Co-op and Career Services
- Understand the stages of the career planning cycle and importance of targeting your job search
- Develop an understanding of the hidden job market and learn how to develop a strategic job search strategy
- Building an Effective Résumé (Approx. 60 minutes)
After this workshop students will:
- Identify available services and resources at Co-op and Career Services
- Find the resume format that best highlights their skills and experiences
- Develop the ability to format a targeted resume for specific positions and organizations
- Understand how to write accomplishment-based job and skill statements
- What Can I Do With My Major? (2nd year and up) (Approx. 90 minutes)
After this workshop students will:
- Understand the stages of the career planning cycle
- Recognize the importance of self-knowledge in career planning
- Comprehend the importance of transferable skills and learn how to identify and acquire them
- Discover common job titles and areas of employment in their area of study
- Find information about career options through a variety of resources including web, people and experience
- Identify potential contacts for information interviews for career research and know how to conduct one
- Introduction to Co-op and Career Services (Approx. 20-30 minutes)
- Identify available services and resources at Co-op and Career Services
- Understand the stages of the career planning cycle
- Recognize early steps that can be taken to help with career planning
