Job Shadow Program

Job Shadow Program
The Job Shadow Program at Carleton University allows our community members to play an active role in the experiential learning of our Carleton students in various career paths and professions. The Job Shadow program is open to 3rdyear students within the Bachelor of Arts, Social Sciences and Public Affairs, who are in the process of exploring their career options related to their academic degree.
As a participant in the program, you will provide a student with an opportunity to spend a full or half day with you learning about your career, the skills, competencies and educational requirements of your profession, and at the same time, experiencing the workplace and broadening their understanding of your industry.
Benefits to Participating as a Job Shadow Host
As a job shadow host, you will experience an opportunity to:
- network and engage with Carleton’s future emerging talent into the workforce
- be well-informed of classroom knowledge and current teachings in degree programs
- experience the interests, ideas and enthusiasm of our students
- brand your organization at Carleton University and among students
Job Shadow Dates and Activities
Job shadow placements may take place during scheduled academic breaks, February 14-22, 2014 or April 28- May 2, 2014. Placements may also take place outside this scheduled time frame, should it be more convenient for the student and job shadow host. The date and scheduled time will be determined and arranged between the student and host.
We welcome job shadow hosts to organize a job shadow experience for a student that is suitable for the function of your organization. Job shadow activities may include some of these components:
- An introduction to your organization with a tour of the workplace
- Interaction with some of your colleagues, attending meetings
- An informational meeting to ask questions and learn more about your job, education, and career path
- Inform and/or participation in a small project
- Read non-confidential reports
