How to apply to the Bridging Program

To apply to the Bridging Program, follow these steps:

STEP 1:

Telephone the Bridging Program Coordinator, Rachelle Thibodeau, at 613-520-2600 ext. 1024. She will help you to determine if the program is right for you before you make a formal application.

STEP 2:

Apply for financial aid, if you need it. To learn how to apply for financial aid, click here.

Get the following items ready before you start your financial aid application:

  • Identification
  • Proof of income (pay stub, letter from employer, or Notice of Assessment)
  • Proof of spouse’s income (if applicable)
  • Marriage certificate (if applicable)
  • Proof of disability (if applicable)
  • Access to a printer (scanned/emailed applications not accepted)
  • Your banking information
  • Your program name is “Special.”

NOTE: The application system will generate an OAN (Ontario Applicant Number) for you. Make sure you write down your OAN. You will need it later in the application process.

Print off your financial aid application, sign it, attach the supporting documents, and send it to:

Carleton University Awards Office
202 Robertson Hall
1125 Colonel By Drive
Ottawa ON K1S 5B6

You may also drop off your financial aid application in person. The Awards Office is open 8:30-4:30 Monday to Friday. A drop box is available weeknights until 9 p.m.

STEP 3:

Apply to become a Special Student. A “Special” student is someone who is permitted to take classes even though they are not enrolled in a degree program. Print and complete the application. Write “BRIDGING PROGRAM” at the top and bring it to the Registrar’s Office.

Complete your Special Student application as soon as the Bridging Program Coordinator confirms you are eligible to join the Bridging Program. Do not wait until you get the results of your financial aid application.

Get the following items ready before you start your Special Student application:

  • Copy of one piece of identification: Canadian passport, driver’s license, Certificate of Indian Status, Permanent Resident Card, Canadian Citizenship Card, or Health Card (with photo)
  • Transcripts from your last high school and any college/university you have taken. If you do not have transcripts, gather information on dates, addresses, etc. (described on the application form).
  • If you have not studied for 3 years in an English speaking institution, you will have to provide proof of English language proficiency.
  • A $49 processing fee (cheque, Interac or credit card).

STEP 4:

Once your Special Student application is approved, you will receive an email from Carleton with your student number. Forward that email to bridging@carleton.ca. We will register you in the Bridging course and send you further instructions.
