Out of Province Loans while on Exchange

Every province and territory has its own unique regulations regarding student loans. If you are an out of province student looking to apply for government student loans click here.

If you are already familiar with the rules and regulations of your particular provincial or territorial assistance program, see below for information on processing your loans while you are on exchange.

  • Once you have registered for your classes and received a notice of assessment from your province, contact the Awards Office (by phone, fax or in person) before the required payment date to arrange for deferral of tuition fees.
  • Loan documents are mailed from individual provinces either to the student for presentation to the Awards Office for validation, or to the Awards Office for pick up by the student, or a combination of both for some provinces.
  • Loan documents cannot be validated until:
    • the first day of classes and
    • fee payment arrangements have been completed.
  • If your loan documents are mailed to you, you may mail them to the Awards Office along with a copy of your Social Insurance Card and Government issued photo ID for validation and have them returned to you for your signature or to a Power Of Attorney who you have authorized to negotiate your loans.
  • All out-of-province exchange students must contact the Awards Office at least one month prior to departure to arrange the negotiation of loan documents.
