On Friday, we visited the Cimitero San Michele. The cemetery is on its own island, and is quite unlike any cemetery I have encountered heretofore. Not only is it the most visually dazzling cemetery, but it is also the most cheerful. Every portion is perfectly manicured, and every grave boasts beautiful flowers.

It is a tranquil haven in the midst of the bustling Venetian lagoon. The trees gave it an exotic, Eden-like atmosphere; however, this could simply have been my reaction to seeing trees after being without them for so long in Venice! Had I not visited the cemetery in one of my last days in Venice, I would go back countless times. It is one of the most pleasant and satisfying sights I have seen in my time here.
